INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

In a few words tell us about who you are, what you do and who you serve.

I’m a Dubliner in Devon with my husband Mike, a mental health expert. I’m a chatty introvert, HSP, INFJ, oat latte lover & tv + film addict.

When I was 3, my mother was diagnosed with manic depression. I’ve spent a lot of my life hiding and learned you need to toot your horn to get where you want.

I’m now a LinkedIn Trainer / Consultant and I help 50+ introverted, empathic and highly sensitive female entrepreneurs to get their voice in the room and connect with their ideal clients.

When did you start your business and why did you get started?

I have a whole detailed story about this over on my website

What is your mission for your business?

My mission is to help fellow female entrepreneurs to toot their horn on LinkedIn.  My vision is to empower tens of thousands of introverted, empathic and highly sensitive female business owners to leverage LinkedIn to drive positive change in their lives and others’ and create economic opportunities.

What’s the one thing about your business journey that you didn’t expect?

Having to become adept at both social selling and positive money mindset.

What is a common myth about your industry?

Many people think that, when marketing your brand, it’s the loud voices that get noticed. You don’t need to be the loudest in the room to cut through the clutter online.  A quiet one-to-one approach can often get the best results.

The introverted approach of one-to-one messages always reaps rewards, whether it is on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.  Everyone looks at a direct message whereas the algorithm doesn’t show the content on the home feed to everyone (only 10-15%).

Most marketers bang on about the kind of content to create which puts off a lot of people but in my experience having a solid profile and using DMs is just as powerful if not more.

If you could go back in time and do something different in the way you built your business, what would you do and why?

I would have waited 12 months before building my website and factored in SEO. My LinkedIn profile and company page would have been more than enough to kick off with.

What advice would you give someone who is struggling with LinkedIn marketing?

KISS - keep it super simple…..

The people who struggle the most with LinkedIn are usually not clear on:

1) who they are (keywords and keyword phrases are paramount)

2) who they help (their ideal client / niche)

3) how they help (tangible / intangible outcomes)

Once you get super clear on all 3 you will fly on LinkedIn! You become top of mind and referrable versus confusing your audience.  A confused mind will always say no.

What is your favourite part of running your business?

Freedom and flexibility.  I get to work with inspiring women around the world who are making a difference and this lights me up.

What tool (or software) is indispensable for your job?

LinkedIn and Zoom.

What’s one upcoming project that you’re excited about right now?

Doing my first evergreen launch / challenge for my revamped 1:1 8-week LinkedIn Thrive Academy program.

I’ll be exploring new tech and working more with my energy which will hopefully shine through and resonate with the right ladies.

Who would you really like to connect with?

Anyone who is running a group or membership for 50+ business women (or women in perimenopause / menopause running a business).

Kristen Westcott Sales Page Copywriter

How would your parents or family describe what you do?

This made me giggle - hopefully they would say LinkedIn Trainer / Consultant but I don’t think they really take it in.  Even my husband gets it wrong after 5+ years.

What’s your favorite colour and what does it say about you?

I love burgundy - it’s a rich deep colour and I’m a deep person with a rich inner life.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

Chatty connection focused introvert!

I’m a personality test junkie - what are your scores (Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, etc. whatever you’re excited to share – give ‘em all to me):

I’m also a lover of all things human design and personality types!

I'm an INFJ (introvert, intuition, feeling, judging), apparently only 1% of the population are and it is completely me - I’m ruled by my gut, feel deeply as an empath and am always judging and assessing which makes me perfect as a consultant critiquing LinkedIn profiles.

On the human design side of things I’m a generator 1 / 3.  The 1 means that I like to go indepth on the research side and the 3 means I like to test things out so I walk the talk. I’m yet to explore Enneagram (I’ve bought a book!) and on the colours I’m primarily a green (connection focused introvert).

What do people misunderstand about you most?

They think that I love networking and ‘working the room’.  For me networking is a learned skillset which everyone can master and as an introvert I like to have a few quality conversations versus chatting to everyone at an event (in person or virtual).  Less is more. I love connecting people but it does take it’s toil energetically so I’m very strategic with my time and boundaries.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

People with an extraction mentality who make everything about them.  I’m all about surrounding myself with radiators (givers) versus drains.

Who has been one of your biggest mentors in your entrepreneurial journey?

In my first year of business I had a business mentor Jivko who really encouraged me to go for it and listened when I was cracking up with submitting my annual accounts and taxes. Without his support and accountability at the start of my journey, I don’t think I would still be here.

As you know I’m a sales copywriter, what is your favourite way to build your email list?

Challenges, webinars and summits.

What does freedom mean to you?

So many things - spending quality time with friends and family and having more time in nature which centres and grounds me.  I love the flexibility of being able to work anywhere in the world so long as I have wifi.  I love being able to work around my energy versus hourly on a rigid time schedule.  Being a 48 year old woman in perimenopause being energetically aligned is super important to me.

FAST 5:

What’s your favourite book you recommend to others?

The book that changed my life is ‘The Highly Sensitive Person’ by Elaine Aron, I only wish I read it 30 years ago!

What’s your favourite way to consume content (audio, video, written)?

Written

What are you reading right now?

'Tell Yourself a Better Lie’ by Marisa Peer and ‘Make Money While You Sleep’ by Lucy Griffiths

What are you watching right now?

Just finishing series 4 of Ozark (love Jason Bateman since I’m a teenager!)

What are you listening to right now?

I never listen to anything on audio - even podcasts I’ve featured on.
